By Air
The first option is to fly directly to Gilgit Airport and then drive to Hunza Valley for a short 2-3 hour journey. The distance between Gilgit and Hunza is around 100 kilometers. You can choose from several rental vehicle providers to get from Gilgit to Hunza.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operates daily flights between Gilgit and Islamabad; however, all flights are subject to weather delays. This choice is less complicated, but it is also less fascinating than the other.

By Road
Taking a 24-hour bus from Islamabad to Hunza Valley is the most scenic choice. On the route, take in the sights of the Karakoram, Skardu, and Kaghan valleys. There is no direct bus service between Lahore and Hunza Valley.

1. Khaplu Fort

From Khaplu Bazaar, a road goes up to the Khaplu Fort. This fort was constructed in 1840 by Raja Daulat Ali Khan of Khaplu, who was from the Yabgu family.

The Yabgu family made it to Khaplu from Central Asia and ruled this place for over 700 years. The fort-cum-palace has now been turned into Serena Hotel.

Once this palace was full of virtuoso architectural masterpieces, every facility on to the next door; this palace having all public dealing offices inside. Tax collection centers, public courts, and prisoners were used to be deal with under one roof, now acquired by Serena and converted into a full-fledged luxury hotel for tourists.

2. Chaqchan Mosque Khaplu.

Chaqchan mosque is another tourist destination in Khaplu Baltistan. Dating from 1370, the mosque is one of the oldest in the region and dates from the time when the area’s populace converted masse from Buddhism to Islam. The mosque shares similar architecture as those built in the Kashmir Valley. It is a perfect blend of Tibetan, Mughal, and Persian styles of architecture. According to some sources, the mosque was built by Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani while others say on the arrival of Sufi saint Syed Nurbakhsh from Kashmir to Baltistan, the local ruling Raja accepted Islam and commissioned the building of the mosque in 1370 CE. However, the dating of the latter theory contradicts the historical source which suggests that the mosque was actually constructed more than two-decade before the birth of Syed Nurbakhsh. 3. Shyok River Khaplu Valley.

One addition to the landscape is River Shyok. In the local language, River Shyok translates into ‘River of Death. This river, originating from Rimu Glacier (next to Siachen Glacier) in Ladakh, enters Gilgit-Baltistan from Machlu, a village in Ghanche.

Going a little ahead from Khaplu, the curvy road takes one to the delta of River Shyok, where it splits up, flowing through the gravel-filled river plain. The peak of Mashabrum mountain can also be seen in the backdrop.

Further ahead is the village of Machlu, which is far from Skardu, and nearer to Khaplu. This village is settled under the shadow of walnut and poplar trees and on the bank of the river of death.

4. Thoksikar Mosque Khaplu.

Want to experience some trekking adventure in Khaplu. Enjoy a 20-minute hike to a mosque more than 500 years old on a hill in Khaplu Valley. You can enjoy this magnificent view of Khaplu Town and Shyok river from Thoksikar Mosque.

5. Hushe Village, Organic Valley of Khaplu.

To the farthest side located Hushe valley one of the organic places in Baltistan. Hushe valley is very close to nature with very less influence on the modern lifestyle. Hushe is known to be the home of ibex and snow leopards (in-danger species). Located at the brink of Mashabrum peak, Hushe is the most scenic place in Khaplu valley. Its also known to be the hub of foreign tourists of Ghanche. The traveling distance of Khaplu to Hushe is almost 3-4 hours full of adventure with 5-10km of bouncy roads. You can also do trophy hunting after acquiring a No objection certificate from the tourism department Gilgit Baltistan.

6. Saling Spangtoq Khaplu Baltistan.

A beautiful grassland lush green in summers this valley is about 20 minutes drive from Khaplu Valley. Saling is famous for its scenic view and abundance of fresh springs. Tourists can enjoy fishing and camping here. Saling Spangtoq Khaplu Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan A wonderful place to visit and landscape photography. It is situated within 20 minute drive from Khaplu valley. District Ghanche is home to some of the most attractive rivers mainly Shyoke and Saling Rivers. Alongside these rivers are beautiful settlements and the water from these rivers is basically the lifeblood of the population here. Saling is a gateway to Hushe Valley as well as a very nice camping spot just beside a lake. On the other side is a wonderful view of Khaplu Town. There is a beautiful fish farm in Saling that offers delicious fish feasts, in which you can just fish your own fish or you can point out what would you like to have over lunch. On the furthest side of Saling is the Mashabrum and sister peaks which gives this place much like a look of Village Pasu in upper Hunza valley. But it sure has a touch of its own uniqueness.

7. Kharfaq Lake Khaplu Valley.

Kharfaq Lake is also called Riochug Tso in the local language. It is located at an altitude of approx 13000 ft in the south-east of Kharfaq Village, 22 km short of Khaplu.
It’s a fascinating lake that is surrounded by high mountains from all sides. One has to start the climb for the lake from Kharfaq village in the southeasterly direction. It is a 2-4 hours steep climb that would require a good standard of physical fitness. Not recommended for cardiac patients.
The lake is fed by the glacial streams and apparently has no outlet. The water is crystal clear and very slightly brackish, however, brown trout can survive in this water and has been stocked here in good numbers.
The hike to the lake is not recommended for those who have a physical illness or some cardiac disease etc as it is quite tough.

9. Masherbrum Peak K1.

The Masherbrum Mountains are located on the south side of the Baltoro Glacier. The southern side of the range, in the Indus River basin, is drained by the Hushe River.

While not as famous as the Baltoro Muztagh mountains, which lie across the Baltoro Glacier, the Masherbrum Mountains contain some of the highest peaks in the world (highest 7,821 meters (25,659 ft)). They attract climbers from around the planet.

10. Saltoro Valley Siachen Glaciers.

Kharfacho fort which stands high on the Indus river guarding the city is also called the king of forts. It was believed that the way to this fort was only known to the royal family. Later the present way was made and now it is open to the public. But the way this fort is still hard to hike. If you are on a visit to Skardu city this fort is a must-see place in the city.

Manthal Buddha Rocks, 8th Century Buddha Relief at Skardu.

This eighth-century Buddha relief represents the late phase of the golden era of Buddhism in the upper Indus valley between the eighth to tenth centuries. The Buddha relief is a large yellow rock that shows the meditating Buddha surrounded by small bodhisattvas and two standing metreyas. The Manthal Buddha site is protected under the antiquities act of 1975.

Basha Valley Shigar Skardu Pakistan

The Basha Valley Shigar, with its hot springs, is one of the favorite places to visit. It receives very few foreign visitors each year, with a handful of trekkers and climbers crossing the Haramosh while traversing up the Chomo Lungma (glacier).

A 3-hour drive up from Skardu brings travelers to upper Shigar ValIey Basho Valley. At this point, the Shigar Valley is perhaps 10 or more kilometers across. In the fall season, sometimes nomadic gold miners work at the rivulets. They submerge their hands in the Iess then 0o degree Celsius water and manually pan for gold. Traversing the valley, at the south bank of the Basha River is the extended village Tisar. There is a police checkpoint just before entering Tisar. Only very few foreigners travel up this valley. About 6 kilometers to the northwest and up the river is the small village of Chutran.

The name literally means “hot water” in the local Balti tongue. In Chutran, there is a medicinal hot spring. Over the decades, the spa has become popular with the local people, who are even coming from beyond Hunza (15 hours by road) to soak in the 40-plus degree Celsius water. Nestled at the base of the northeast side of the Haramosh Range, Chutron is partially shaded and thereby relatively cool. Its scalloped terraced wheat fields are intercrossed by footpaths and stone field boundaries, all of which conspire to provide beautifully pastoral views and retain a primitive charm, seemingly stuck in the 19th century.
The village of Hemaesil is about 35 to 45 minutes by Jeep up the Basha River, just across a gushing stream from Chutron. On the opposite side of the river is Dogoro. Just upriver from Niaslo is Doko, where an ancient bridge that is sometimes impassable.

Braldo Valley Shigar.

Braldo is one of the isolated and scantily inhabited Valleys. About 40 km North of Shigar valley is the start of Braldo valley, the most isolated of all the trans-Karakoram valleys. Braldo is wrapped in snow-covered peaks and the largest glaciers outside the polar region. But there is nothing comparable to the wonderful view of the glaciers. Braldo has the distinction of being the least interfered with, of all settlements of Baltistan, and one of the last few surviving cultural satellites of Baltistan. Virtually untouched by the winds of change and modernization till then, Braldo is now a favorite destination for trekkers and culture lovers.

The Braldo Valley is heavily traveled in the summer mountaineering months. Supplies, food, tea, and sleep facilities are thus readily available. The entire ridgeline from above Yuno northwest to the Braldo River has been worked in places. Previously this area was known as Bangia Bridge, referring to the bridge crossing the main channel of the Braldo River immediately south of the new town. Today, the new village of Haiderabad sits very close to many of the Bangla Bridge. The west side of Buspar Peak, directly above the very small village of Baha near the outlet of the Braldu Valley is currently being worked. To enter the Braldu Valley, one must follow the Jeep trail as it gradually turns north. Nearing Baha, the road was blasted out of a rock face. The road squeezes by the fast-flowing river, passing an exposed pegmatite so closely that it can be easily touched from inside the vehicle.
Two to three kilometers past Baha, there is a military checkpoint at which foreigners are asked to register. Another couple of kilometers to the north, there is a 40-year-old bridge with a police checkpoint. The bridge spans the Braldo River leaving travelers on the northwest bank. : The village of Teston is roughly two kilometers north of the bridge and a bit up from the road.

The village of Dassu is actually about 5 I, kilometers upriver around a sharp eastward bend. Near the east end of this small village are several small shops selling food, staples, and basic supplies. Continuing eastward on the north side of the Braldu, travelers encounter a Jeep road that veers off to the left, climbing a very steep zigzag trail that winds up on a small plateau home to the village of Nyet. The sole Jeep trail leading further into the valley at one time clung to the north side of the river until the bridge crossing at Apo Ali Gun. A new road now crosses the Braldu River closer to Byansapi.
A walk across the Apo Ali Gun bridge and about5 kilometers north brings travelers to a deep gash known as the Hoh Nala. Just across the bridge that spans HohNala and a few minutes to the south is the village of Chhaqpou.

Braldo valley is an extension of Shigar Valley reachable via Skardu, which is accessible by a 22-hour drive along the Karakoram Highway from the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad; Or a 6-hour drive from Gilgit or alternatively by an easy 45 minutes plane flight from Islamabad to Skardu.
